It started with Mumtaz Khan Akbar. A stall on Great Horton Road in Bradford, three metres by four, wholesome food made by hand and served to a growing community. The year was 1979.
What followed was four decades of slow, deliberate growth. The stall became a takeaway. The takeaway became a flagship Bradford restaurant. Leeds and Manchester followed, until Mumtaz was one of Britain's most respected family-run South Asian dining rooms, seating up to 500 across the group.
Then came the manufacturing arm: Mumtaz Food Industries in Mytholmroyd, supplying ready meals to Britain's biggest supermarkets, and pioneering Halal baby food on British shelves for the very first time. An answer to a generation of Muslim mothers who'd been waiting for it.
In 2025, the group opened its first base outside the United Kingdom: Mumtaz Global Solution in Rabat, Morocco. In 2026, with the founding family's next generation now at the table, we built CatchCo. To take what Mumtaz has always done well, sourcing, trust, scale, and turn it into a service for the rest of the world.
